A Legal Disclaimer

Effective date: September 13, 2026

Waita the Kitty (waitathekitty.org) is run by a family who lost their cat. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what happens to it. We don't sell anything, we don't run ads, and we don't pass your information to anyone unless you ask us to.

What you give us. If you fill out the Watchlist Request Form, we collect your name, your pet's name, your phone number, the general area and date your pet was last seen, a photo link if you have one, and whatever description you write. If you call or text us instead, we keep what you send in that conversation — messages, photos, details about your search. The form asks for a cross street or neighborhood rather than your home address, and we'd rather you didn't give us your home address at all.

Your name and phone number. We ask for your name and phone number so we can reach you, and we keep both in our own private records. Calling or texting is the only way we contact anyone. Your number is published on your pet's listing only if you explicitly ask us to put it there — the form has an option for that, and you can also just tell us. If you don't ask, neither your name nor your number appears anywhere on this site, and nobody sees them but us. You can change your mind either direction at any time.

What becomes public. A watchlist listing shows your pet's name and photo, the general area and date your pet went missing, and the description you wrote. Your name and phone number are not published unless you ask us to add them. "General area" means a cross street or neighborhood, never your home address. Sighting reports are published the same way, without the reporter's contact details unless they ask for them to be included. Send us only what you're comfortable having on a public page — tell us to leave anything out and we will. Our wildlife maps show animal activity and locations only; no one's name or address appears on them.

We don't share your information. What you tell us stays between us and this site. We don't post your pet's information to other websites, social media groups, or lost-and-found platforms. Searching those platforms is something we do for you — we look through them for your pet the same way we look for ours — but we don't put your information into them. If you want us to pass something to a shelter, a vet clinic, animal control, or a specific group, just say so and we'll do exactly what you asked and nothing more. The only other exception is if we're legally required to hand something over.

Information collected automatically. This site runs on Wix, which collects basic visit data — pages viewed, approximate location from IP address, browser and device type, referring site — along with cookies needed for the site to work. We use this only to see whether listings are actually reaching people. Wix's own privacy practices are at wix.com/about/privacy. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, though some parts of the site need the essential ones.

How long we keep it. Listings stay up while a pet is missing. When a pet is found, or whenever you ask, we take the listing down. We actively search for a pet for two years. At that point the listing comes down and everything we have — your submission, our message history, photos you sent — is deleted from our records. This is a two-person effort with limited storage, so we don't hold onto anything longer than we're using it. If you want your information gone sooner, at any point, just text us and it's gone.

Your choices. Reach us through the Contact page and we'll tell you what we have about you, correct anything wrong, pull your number off a listing, take your listing down, or delete your information entirely. There's no form and no waiting period past however long it takes us to see the message.

Children. This site isn't aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information. If a kid has submitted something, let us know and we'll remove it.

Security. Your name and phone number sit in our Wix account, protected by a password and two-factor authentication. No website is perfectly secure and we'd rather say that than pretend otherwise. We will never ask you for money, payment details, or account information — if someone claiming to be from this site does, it isn't us.

Changes. If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
